EAST GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- Police in New York state called a serial burglar who has been arrested for the 99th time a "one-man crime spree."
Cedric McCants, who has been convicted 78 times for burglaries, robberies and grand larcenies, has been jailed 15 times.
His longest stint in prison was for four years.
McCants was on parole when police linked him to a series of burglaries in East Garden City, N.Y., including a break-in at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Investigators said he steals laptops and then sells them.
Because 67 of his 78 convictions were for misdemeanors, he has received relatively short prison sentences.
Police, who are frustrated by the case, are demanding that prosecutors and judges give McCants a longer sentence than he has received in the past.
In a statement, Nassau's district attorney promised to "push hard for significant upstate prison time for this career criminal."
