Witnesses: Pet Deer Runs Amok Through Restaurant
"I thought maybe a customer had fallen over," employee Richard Fogg said of the loud crash the deer made when it broke through the window. "I looked up and a deer had come through the window."
Witnesses in the parking lot said a woman had the deer on a leash, when a crowd that gathered to look spooked the animal, causing it run toward the building.
"It pretty much ran over me," Fogg said.
Store employees tried to shoo the dear toward the restaurant's back door, while patrons stood on tables to avoid the fracas.
The deer, which witnesses described as a 120 to 140-pound doe, finally ran through the kitchen and out the back door.
No one was injured in the melee, and there's no word on why the woman had the deer or if charges would be filed against her.
"We might add deer jerky (to the menu)," Fogg said laughing.
this woman should be punched in the face almost continuously. who, in their right mind, has a pet deer? they are wild animals. this woman couldnt be more of an attention whore if she tried....
No Go In Jell-o Wrestling Lawsuit Against NYU
A Manhattan judge has thrown out $1 million suit against New York University by a former student who claimed he broke his hip at a Jell-o wrestling dorm party.
Avram Wisnia was an NYU junior in 2004 when he and his dorm mates organized a party called "Beach Bash." While horsing around a kiddie pool filled with gelatin, Wisnia was pushed and shattered his hip, his lawsuit said.
Wisnia's 2005 lawsuit blamed NYU for allowing the event and for having the school's food service provide the gelatin. But Manhattan Justice Carol Robinson Edmead ruled that Wisnia knew what he was doing.
NYU spokesman John Beckman said "This case broke the mold but in the end justice was served sweetly."
gotta blame someone, right? why not blame your drunken self. oh, that wont get you any money? too bad asshole.......

Man Shot While Moving Into Girlfriend's House
The unidentified man was allegedly shot by the woman’s ex-husband, who police said went to the scene on the 3700 block of Crossette Road and brandished a pistol.
“The boyfriend was moving in, the ex-husband moving out, they got into a confrontation when they happened to run across each other,” San Antonio police Sgt. Mark Hubbard said. “At that time, the ex-husband pulled a weapon, firing one shot and striking the boyfriend in the abdomen."
this seems like a timing problem more than anything. couldnt this boyfriend wait one day to move in? he had to do that day? maybe he deserved to be shot......
Holocaust-themed Rio Carnival float causes strain
The Viradouro samba organization, or school, plans to feature the grim display when it marches in the Sambadrome parade strip on Sunday, despite objections from a local Jewish group.
"Really, it makes no sense addressing this theme with drums and dancing girls," said Sergio Niskier, president of the Israelite Federation in Rio de Janeiro state, referring to the slaughter of Jews by Nazi Germany in World War Two.
"There are still survivors of that horror who have the marks of that tragedy on their skin," he said.
Rio's Carnival is famed for the parades by samba schools with glitzy floats and costumes and street parties where costumed revelers drink and dance all night.
The elaborately decorated floats are a key part of each samba school's presentation, along with thousands of dancers and drummers led by near naked Carnival queens.
Viradouro insisted its Holocaust float is not meant to offend anyone.
"The float is extremely respectful, it's a warning, it's something shocking that we don't want to happen ever again," said Paulo Barros, Viradouro's artistic director.
Viradouro's parade theme is "Shockers" and it includes floats depicting the shock of birth, the shock of horror and the shock of cold.
Barrossaid the Holocaust float would be the only one without dancers on top.
"If we had people dancing on top of dead bodies that would indeed be disrespectful," he told Reuters.
Traditionally, the use of religious references causes last-minute problems for samba schools. In the past, the Roman Catholic Church has barred floats with figures of Christ and the Virgin Mary and samba schools had to cover or modify them.
are you kidding me? this is rio....during carnival. more titties ...less dead bodies. thats always been my motto.......
Jury Hears Testimony About British Teen Who Filmed Herself Trying to Kill Parents
The girl, then 15, allegedly tried to strangle her mother in the living room of the family's house in St. Neots, about 57 miles northwest of London, while she was working on the computer.
She also is accused of planning to stab her father with a pair of scissors once he realized what was going on, according to the Mail.
The girl, who is 16, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder.
The video shot on Feb. 24 was shown to a jury at Cambridge Crown Court, the newspaper reported.
In it, the girl is sitting in a silk nightgown in her bedroom talking about what she's going to do to her parents. The tape then cuts to the scene downstairs in the living room, where the teen's mother is seen at the computer.
The girl approaches her mother from behind and wraps a cord around her neck, pulling it tight, according to the paper.
Her mother at first thinks she's joking and then protests, "You are strangling me" when her daughter doesn't stop.
Her father, who at the time had been watching rugby on television, manages to avoid a jab from the scissors when he rushes over to help, the Mail reported.
The video was shown on the first day of the trial, which is expected to last through the week.

Customs officers seize hundreds of headless rats destined for London restaurants
Hundreds of rat corpses - which had been smoked to improve their flavour - were found at Tilbury Docks, in London.
The grisly discovery was made by customs officials as they made a routine inspection of a shipment of synthetic hair at the docks.
Closer investigation revealed boxes containing the carcases of 340 kilos of headless rats.
The giant cane rats, which had been smoked prior to shipping, arrived in a shipment from Ghana and are considered a delicacy in the country.
The illegal trade in the meat of wild animals has been devastating animal populations for decades and experts fear the unrefrigerated meat is capable of carrying diseases such as foot-and-mouth, anthrax, the Ebola virus, TB and cholera.
John Kaye, Assistant Director of Criminal Investigations at Ipswich, said: "This discovery of bushmeat has stopped an illegal and un-regulated product with health implications from reaching our streets."
A 42-year-old West African woman has been arrested at an address in London in connection with the illegal importation and later bailed pending further enquiries.

Gun shop employee accidentally shot in finger
Michael Tate, 55, was handed a gun which had jammed when a customer was using the indoor range, said Fayetteville police Sgt. F.M. Jernigan. When Tate attempted to unjam the weapon, it fired.
“The employee grabbed the gun and, unfortunately, he grabbed the trigger and it went off in his hand,” Jernigan said.
The bullet from the 9 millimeter semiautomatic handgun took a chunk out of Tate’s left ring finger near the webbing.
“It didn’t actually go through his hand,” Jernigan said.
Tate was aiming the gun down when it discharged, Jernigan said. After striking his finger, the bullet lodged in a cabinet.
When police arrived at 6:30 p.m. at the Yadkin Road business, the range was briefly cleared. By the time Jernigan left, gun owners were back on the range.
Tate was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. His injuries were not life-threatening.
“He felt pretty embarrassed being employed by Jim’s Pawn Shop for the firing range,” Jernigan said.

Man who used stun gun on toddler gets 46 months
Rian Wittman was arrested in February and agreed to a plea bargain last year. The sentence was imposed Friday.
Prosecutor Reed Dinsmore said the stun gun delivered 30,000 volts during testing.
"This is a case of a father torturing his 18-month-old son," prosecutor Reed Dinsmore said. "Why? We can't tell."
He said it's not yet known whether the child will suffer long-term nerve or neurological damage.
The prosecution said the child's mother saw marks on the boy in January 2007 and, thinking it was a rash, wanted to take him to a doctor.
But Wittman talked her out of it, Dinsmore said.
"He described to her that he used the stun gun to play peekaboo with the child," Dinsmore said. "The mother did not report the incident, and that was a mistake on her part."
After a second incident in February, she took the child to her sister's home and then to the police. Doctors at Samaritan Albany General Hospital found numerous wounds conforming to the stun gun's electrode pattern.
"I spoke to a Department of Human Services careworker who was present, and she said the look in the child's eyes will not easily be forgotten," Dinsmore said.
Defense attorney Tim Felling said Wittman believes the injuries were caused by the child's mother.
Felling said the two had argued earlier on the day the child was taken to authorities, and the mother said, "You'll be sorry" as she took the boy from the home.
thats the very least they could do to him. i hope they tell all the other convicts what he did. i hope he finds out what they use as a stun gun.......

The trio were arrested after an undercover operation by the Largo Police Department at 13625 Icot Blvd.
Brooke Lindsey Tatman, 20, of Seminole, was charged with unlicensed practice of a health care profession and unlawful use of a two-way device. The latter charge stemmed from her use of a cell phone to set up a rendezvous with an undercover detective, authorities said.
Tatman performed the massage in the nude on the undercover detective, according to an arrest affidavit.

Woman Gets Maximum Prison Term After Laughing About Murder Victim's Death
Melissa Arrington, 27, was convicted two months ago of negligent homicide and two counts of aggravated DUI in connection with the December 2006 death of Paul L'Ecuyer.
She could have gotten as few as four years behind bars, but Superior Court Judge Michael Cruikshank sentenced her Tuesday to 10 1/2 years — one year shy of the maximum.
Cruikshank said he found a telephone conversation between Arrington and an unknown male friend, a week after L'Ecuyer was killed, to be "breathtaking in its inhumanity."
During the conversation, the man told Arrington that an acquaintance believed she should get a medal and a parade because she had "taken out" a "tree hugger, a bicyclist, a Frenchman and a gay guy all in one shot."
Arrington laughed. When the man said he knew it was a terrible thing to say, she responded, "No, it's not."
Assistant Public Defender Michael Rosenbluth told the judge his client has never been "cold, callous or flippant" about L'Ecuyer's death and has always felt remorseful.
Arrington said words couldn't express how she feels, and that once she's out of prison, she hopes to share her story with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
L'Ecuyer, 45, was riding his bike the night of Dec. 1, 2006 when Arrington swerved off the road, hit him and then continued for 800 feet before stopping, according to Deputy Pima County Attorney Jonathan Mosher.
Arrington's blood-alcohol content was .156 percent, nearly double Arizona's .08 legal limit. She had been driving on a suspended license for a prior DUI.
actually words could express how she feels and did so. she should have got the maximum sentence for this.
Landlord sues over dead man's broken lease
The unrepentant landlord Antony Lee has told the Herald Sun he had no problems taking the case to a tribunal, saying: "A tenant has died. Is that my problem?"
In a case that has sparked calls for a review of the state's tenancy laws, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal this week upheld Mr Lee's claim for almost one month's rent, to be paid from the estate of Michael James Ward, 64.
Ms Theresa Duggan, said she had spent days and hundreds of dollars cleaning the Bennett Court home in Traralgon after her father's death there last December.
Despite the clean-up, the landlord demanded compensation for rental loss.
"The law told him he could, but he had no reason to -- everything was clean. It was just heartless," Ms Duggan said.
"I was so angry. It's such a miserable thing to do."
Mr Ward died from a heart attack on December 6.
He had another eight months to run on his 12-month lease.
The law says that when a tenant dies, the tenant's representative must give 28 days' notice that the lease will be broken to terminate the lease.
If, after advertising, the landlord cannot find a new tenant during that period, the landlord can make a claim against the dead tenant's estate for lost rent.
It means the law holds grieving relatives liable for a landlord's lost rent.
The revelation came as a cruel shock to Ms Duggan, who had to take out a $6000 loan to pay for her father's funeral.
"I just don't think it's fair," she said. "I would like to warn other lessees that if you are going to die suddenly, make sure you have contacted the landlord in writing 28 days before you depart so that your family doesn't have to go through the extra unnecessary trauma."
Tenants Union of Victoria tenant advocate Bill Darling said the 28-day period should be revised because of the accommodation crisis.
"In the current rental market, with the amazing shortage of affordable rental properties, we would suggest something more akin to seven to 14 days' notice would be appropriate because, depending on the location and size of the premises, there should be no problem renting it."
Mr Lee said he took the case to the tribunal on advice from his real estate agent.
"I've been advised by my agent to get it back," he said.
He considered abandoning his claim out of compassion, but decided to proceed.
"I've thought about that," he said. "But would you?"
Mr Lee, who owns two homes in Traralgon, said he was still paying off the mortgages on his properties.
He said he had advertised for new tenants in the Bennett Court home, but had had no takers.
He said it remained vacant, but was no longer available for rent. Inquires with his real estate agent confirmed it was no longer on their rental list.
hey its not his fault. she shouldnt have signed the lease if there was a chance she would die. is this guy a complete asshole or what. look at the picture....he even looks like a douche......
Jamie Lynn Spears Giving Baby To Mother?
A source tells U.S. magazine Star, "After several weeks of personal soul searching and talks and discussions with her mother Jamie Lynn reluctantly agreed that giving up the baby is the right thing to do. Lynne says Jamie doesn't understand the life long consequences of having a baby.
"She still wants her daughter to be able to be a teenager, go to parties, hang out with friends and have a career. So she'll take the front seat of caring for the baby and take the pressure off her daughter.
"Lynne is convinced that having a baby on her hip will not help Jamie Lynn's future in the business and she's expecting her daughter to pick up where she left off as soon as the baby is born."
thats a great idea because the mom did so well with the first two whores....er......i mean daughters she raised. this baby stands no chance at all......

Jackpot! Regina gamblers go to town on casino change machine spewing $20s
Not this time. Staff at Casino Regina are trying to get back money from rogue gamblers who took advantage of a misloaded change-making machine that mistakenly gave out $20 bills instead of fives. By the time the glitch was noticed, baby could afford a lot more than a new pair of shoes. A total of $27,500 had been snatched up by opportunistic players.
Nearly half of that sum - $13,400 - has been recovered from the people involved and now the casino is looking at its legal options for getting the rest back.
"It was wrongfully taken," Saskatchewan Gaming Corp. President Marty Klyne said on Thursday.
"I can't interpret what was going on in their minds at the time, but you'd have to assume that if you put in a $20 bill and you expect four fives back and get four twenties, that your eyebrows might go up. I think if they had put a twenty in and got two fives back we would have heard about it pretty quickly."
The incident happened in October when the electronic machine, which can be used by patrons to break up large bills, was misloaded by an employee. A cartridge loaded with $20 bills was installed in the place where the $5 bills are supposed to go.
"We're satisfied that it was human error," Klyne said, noting the cartridges have since been more clearly labelled.
It took nearly two days before an honest person stumbled upon the mistake and reported it to staff. During that time, a "vast" number of people used the machine repeatedly because they knew it was paying off, Klyne said. One person collected $11,000. That would mean more than 180 trips.
Those who were identified as using the machine and not reporting the problem have been banned from the premises. The casino has asked its lawyers for an opinion on whether the rest of the money is recoverable through civil lawsuits, and Regina police have been asked to investigate.
Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich said it is too early to say if a crime was committed.
"It's a little bit difficult to say what we would classify it as," Popowich said. "We're a very long way from the end of this investigation and it would be best not to second guess the outcome."
The fact that the machine belonged to a casino might have made people more inclined to take advantage of the situation, said Eldon Soifer, a University of Regina ethics professor.
"I think some people might say, 'Well it is just a casino, I don't mind ripping them off,"' Soifer said. "If it turned out that it was a machine where you were supposed to give donations to charity and it started spewing out extra money, I suspect you'd have many more people reporting the problem."
Casino Regina is owned by the Saskatchewan government, which means the money belongs to taxpayers.
give me a break. the guy finally found a machine that was paying off and they want their money back. its just not fair......
Burglary investigation uncovers marijuana growing operation
An adult and juvenile were arrested a short time after Wednesday's burglary at 3800 Pughsville Road, but police went in to make sure no one else was inside.
That's when police say they found an “elaborate home marijuana growing operation” that included marijuana plants and equipment.
"We have seen and made arrest of grow operations, do it frequently," said Lt. Debbie George of the Suffolk Police Dept. "But, usually it's one or two plants growing in flowers. This person went to a lot of work."
Daniel Paul Estellia, 24, arrived home and was arrested on one charge of felony manufacturing of marijuana.
Police say Estellia turned his entire trailer into a greenhouse.
Even in the closet, there weren't clothes hanging, but hangers holding marijuana plants growing," said George.
Neighbors say Estellia and a woman moved to the neighbrohood about a year ago, and pretty much kept to themselves. Some tell 13News they were not suprised by what officers discovered inside the couple's trailer.
"Chris said, 'Mom, no wonder it smells so smoky,'" said neighbor Diane Wellings.
In all, police seized 20 plants with a street value of more than $160,000. Estellia has been charged with manufacturing marijuana and now faces five to 30 years in jail if convicted.
The home has been condemned, police added.
now theres a conundrum. you've been robbed. you should call the police but maybe they willfind your elaborate dope growing factory. what to do.

Runaway Teens Found Safe In Louisiana
Teacher stabbed at Elgin High
Carolyn Gilbert, 50, was stabbed multiple times in the upper body. She was being treated at Sherman Hospital in Elgin and had not been released as of late Friday afternoon.
The 16-year-old male student was charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and aggravated battery to a teacher, both felonies.
Gilbert had been alone with the student in her first-floor classroom when the attack occurred around 11:15 a.m., officials said.
The last day of semester finals, the school's 2,100 students had been released just 15 minutes before.
Another staff member passing by Gilbert's classroom heard her cries and intervened, said Tony Sanders, Elgin Area School District U-46's chief communications officer.
The student was arrested at the scene and the knife was recovered, Elgin police Lt. Cecil Smith said.
None of Elgin Area School District U-46's five high schools feature metal detectors. Instead, Sanders said, students are sometimes "wanded" with a hand-held device.
"This has never happened before," Elgin Teachers Association President Tim Davis said of the stabbing.
Kenny Williams, an Elgin senior and basketball team member, said his team was in practice at the time of the incident.
"We were clueless," he said. "I got into my car and turned on the radio -- and it was the first thing I heard. … It just came out of nowhere," he said.
Counselors will be available on Tuesday when classes resume.
The accused student was being held in the Cook County Youth Facility in Chicago, police said. He has a hearing set for Tuesday in Chicago.

Goth who walks fiancée on a leash is banned by bus driver who told him: 'No dogs allowed'
But nothing had prepared her for the reaction of the bus driver who allegedly told the self-styled Goth and her boyfriend: "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on."
Miss Maltby and her fiance Dani Graves were so angered they have complained to the bus company of being "victimised".
The music technology student had this defence of her lifestyle.
"I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life," she said.
"I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."
The bus driver, however, has obviously not been listening.
He has repeatedly refused to allow Mr Graves, 25, and his "pet" on to his bus in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
Last month, with Miss Maltby on a leash as usual, the couple tried to board a bus at the bus station.
The driver, who was off duty, was standing near the door.
Mr Graves alleged: "He shoved me off the bus. He called us freaks and he called Tasha a dog.
"He said, 'We don't let freaks and dogs like you on'.
"He basically grabbed my T-shirt and slammed me backwards.
"I got a bit angry and called him a fascist pig."
In a separate incident, police were called when the driver, who has not been named, refused to allow other passengers on board after the couple ignored his orders and sat down.
The couple, who live on benefits in a council house and plan to start a family, have been friends for years.
They started going out together in July and became engaged in November.
Paul Adcock, of bus company Arriva Yorkshire, said: "We take any allegations of discrimination seriously.
"Mr Graves has already contacted us directly and as soon as our investigation has concluded we will inform him of the outcome."
Teacher, student 'had sex in darkroom'
Paul Anthony Segar, 50, of Mt Waverley, appeared in the County Court in Melbourne today charged with two counts of an indecent act with a child under the age of 16, four counts of sexual penetration with a child under 16 and four counts of sexual penetration with a child aged 16 to 17 whilst under his care and supervision.
The court was told the offences happened at a secondary school in Melbourne's eastern suburbs between 1992 and 1994 and began when the girl was 14.
Prosecutor Steve Dewberry told the court the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was first approached by Mr Segar in February 1992 when she went to return a CD to another teacher.
Mr Segar took the victim into an office where he "ran his hands up and down her clothes for a couple of minutes", Mr Dewberry told the court.
Mr Dewberry said the victim told another teacher: "He tried to make a move on me."
On several occasions Mr Segar put his hand down the girl's pants in the school's darkroom.
"He asked her once a month or so if she would have sex with him," Mr Dewberry said.
The court was told Mr Segar had anal sex with the girl once a week during the school year in 1994.
The school principal and Education Department were notified in 1994 and a letter was sent to Mr Segar outlining the allegations.
The victim did not report the incidents to police until December 2004.
The trial continues.
she must have been pretty ugly for the kid to need a dark room. isnt it a relief to find out that this isnt only an american thing......
Kenyan Marathon Runner Killed by Arrow
Wesly Ngetich, 34, won the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minn., in 2005 and 2007. He and at least a dozen other Kenyans withdrew from the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon and Half Marathon because of the political strife in Kenya.
David Okeyo, head of Athletics Kenya, the governing body for Kenyan sports, confirmed Ngetich's death but had no details on the circumstances. Police had no immediate comment.
Another athlete, the former Olympic runner Lucas Sang, was hacked to death in western Kenya during the election violence.
A fellow athlete said Ngetich was caught in the crossfire of a dispute between two ethnic groups Monday in Trans Mara, on the outskirts of Kenya's legendary Masai Mara game reserve. The death had nothing to do with the election violence, said William Yiampoy, a neighbor and one of Kenya's top 800-meter runners.
``It's not true he died because of the election violence in Kenya,'' Yiampoy told The Associated Press, citing eyewitnesses in their village. He said a man from Ngetich's tribe had shot a boy with an arrow, and the other group was avenging the attack. Ngetich was hit accidentally, Yiampoy said.
``We're shocked because we became very good friends with Wesley,'' said Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma's Marathon. ``The city of Duluth kind of adopted him, and he kind of adopted the city of Duluth, and we were expecting him to return and defend his title.''
Hussein Makke, Ngetich's agent, said the runner told him earlier this month that he has 150 cows - but that it would take 1,000 cows to make him a big man in his village.
``This was really his main focus, to become a moneymaker from running,'' Makke said.
as if living in kenya isnt punishment enough......now you have to worry about arrows too. i guess hacking someone to death with a machete isnt gruesome enough.

University quenches thirst for knowledge with 'Beer 101'
The popular "brewing science" course at University of King's College, which will trace the history of beer and include field trips to area breweries, is the brainchild of Professor Gordon McOuat, a self-described beer connoisseur with a passion for stout.
The course, which began last week and is offered for three hours every Thursday night, is believed to be the first of its kind in Canada.
Called Brewing Science: The History, Culture and Science of Beer, the course is offered under the auspices of the History of Science and Technology program at the liberal arts university of only 1,100 students.
The university's website bills the course as "Beer 101" and it is by far the most popular upper-year course in the entire program.

Sex with student alleged
The complaint against Rebecca Bogard of Woodland Park Drive, Biloxi, was filed by the student's parent, said Capt. John Miller of the Biloxi Police Department. She was arrested Friday by the Biloxi Police on one charge of sexual battery on a male under the age of 16 and taken to the Harrison County jail.
Judge Albert Fountain set her bail at $50,000, and she was released the same day.
"This is her first year to teach at the alternative school," said Biloxi School Superintendent Paul Tisdale. Bogard is a science teacher at the Center for New Opportunities on Pass Road; she previously taught at one of the district's elementary schools for about three years.
She is a 1998 graduate of Biloxi High School.
Tisdale said he has informed the school board of the charges against Bogard. He will meet with the board attorney and the district's personnel director today to determine what action should be taken.
A preliminary hearing will be set within the next few days by the Justice Court, said Miller.
of course you would have tapped that when you were in school. for christs sake...you'd tap that now. i guess she took that name " Center for New Opportunities" a little too far. i must say she does have a feel for her students.

Heath Ledger found dead in NYC apartment
There was no obvious indication of suicide, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said.
According to The New York Times, his body was moved to the floor, and after receiving no response from the actor after shaking him, the masseuse and housekeeper called authorities.
“We are investigating the possibility of an overdose,” Browne said. “There were pills within the vicinity of the bed.”
A source told msnbc.com's Courtney Hazlett that Ledger had been turning down roles lately.
He was nominated for an Oscar for his performance as a gay cowboy in “Brokeback Mountain,” where he met Michelle Williams, who played his wife in the film. The two had a daughter, now 2-year-old Matilda, and lived together in Brooklyn until they split up last year.
He once said he was ready to die because he could live on in his child.

Woman, 53, Uses Martial Arts To Nab Alleged Burglar
Margot Foster, 53, arrived home at 2600 block of Northeast Court Friday around 10 a.m. and found a man identified as Gregory St. Germain, 24, ransacking her house, police said. She was able to tackle the suspect outside of her home, but police said he was able to get free.
The marathon runner and black belt in martial arts then chased St. Germain for six or seven blocks until she caught up with him and held him until police arrived, according to patrol Sgt. Alan Nestor of the Lighthouse Point police.
He was charged with burglary, battery, possession of stolen property and grand theft and was being held in the Broward County Jail, police said.

Tom Cruise used Scientology to detox 911 rescuers
The 'Mission Impossible' star has revealed how, as a Scientologist, he recognised there was a problem and provided rescue workers in the aftermath of the New York terrorist attack with detoxification therapy based upon the works of Scientologist founder L. Ron Hubbard.
In a new clip from his leaked Scientology promotional video, Tom said: "The EPA came out and said the air was clean. Of course, as a Scientologist you go, that's a lie. Outright lie. Liar. Fine.
"Finally you say, dammit, just go there and do it. Put it there, let's go, here's the money, let's go. Let's just get one person treated. I can't sleep another night.
"We have tools that we can apply to ourselves and apply to others. You're going to get improvements. Period."
The 45-year-old star claims Scientologists "are the authorities" and need no permission to take action.
He said: "A Scientologist is somebody who can look at the world and really see it for what it is. And not just see it but be able to go 'pow' and actually do something about it. And be somebody who is not asking permission to do that. Why ask permission? We are the authorities."
Tom, wife Katie Holmes and daughter Suri have been spending a lot of time in New York this week with actor Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica.
In December, Seinfeld revealed: "I did some Scientology courses about 30 years ago. I didn't do very much. I don't know that much, I just did a little but I liked it."
But a representative for the 'Bee Movie' star said: "He is not studying Scientology in any way at this time. He did attend a course 30 years ago that he found interesting but he is Jewish and not changing his religion or faith in any direction.
"Jerry and Tom Cruise both have homes in Telluride, Colorado, which is their connection."
Utah Mother Admits To Sex Acts With Teen Boys
Afternoon adventure that ended in disaster
The survivor, who knew only his companions' first names, told police they had entered the drain in Moverly Road, Kingsford - almost two kilometres from where they were washed out to sea.
Inspector Eddie Bosch said the group had been drinking alcohol and spraying graffiti inside the drain when they heard the sound of rushing water. "They spent about half an hour doing the artwork, not that far from the entrance," he said. "Then they've heard a noise and suddenly the water is upon them and they've washed all the way to Lurline Bay."
They smashed into steel bars at the end of the drain but the 27-year-old slipped through. "The others have got multiple injuries. He's just got a little scratch on his hip," Inspector Bosch said.
Graffiti left at the manhole where they entered the drain reads: "Predators memorial this way."
Phillip Collins, 29, from Maroubra, told the Herald he had walked through the drain about a year ago with friends.
"It's really dark and there's nowhere to go," he said.
Inspector Eddie Bosch said the quick actions of local residents had saved the 27-year-old.
"He managed to wave his arms around and some residents across the other side of the bay have seen him in trouble.
"They've got on their surfboards and gone across and literally saved his life," Inspector Bosch said.
Rescue crews arrived at about 6.30pm but were unable to save the young man and woman, also believed to be in their twenties.
A neighbour, Susan Hutchinson, 40, went to see why helicopters were hovering near the cliff and saw a young woman's body being winched out of the water by a rescue helicopter.
"The question is what are they doing here in the first place?" Ms Hutchinson said.
Inspector Bosch said: "It just shows the dangers of going into these sort of places. Stormwater drains are not anywhere people should go."
Officers later searching the drain found a bag of spray paint cans inside, police said.
graffiti artists drown. hmmmm, i'm having trouble working up some sympathy here. i hate graffiti artists. seems like the karma wheel has spun again.
Police: Grandmother Arrested At McDonald's Drive-Thru For Not Pulling Car Forward
Authorities said Jean Merola, a grandmother of eight, was arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused an officer's orders to move her car while she waited for the coffee and fries she ordered at the drive-through window.
Merola said the McDonald's employees told her to wait there for her food.
Merola was handcuffed behind her back and put in the cruiser.
Another officer arrived and took her to the Pinellas County Jail .
Merola said she was searched, photographed and fingerprinted.
Jail records show she was released about 90 minutes later on her own recognizance.

Soldier 'handcuffed, assaulted with vibrator'
Nicola Clunies-Ross went on trial in the West Australian District Court today accused of luring her Darwin-based soldier lover to her Perth home on October 28, 2006.
She has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, aggravated sexual penetration without consent and deprivation of liberty.
Prosecutor Amanda Burrows told the jury today that Ms Clunies-Ross believed her 19-year-old lover had wronged her and was lying about an ex-girlfriend and may have had hepatitis C.
Ms Clunies-Ross lured him to her flat, told him she had a surprise for him, ordered him to strip and handcuffed him to a chair.
"He consented to being constrained at that point in time. He thought he was in for a night of sexual adventure," Ms Burrows said.
But instead, a champagne-sipping Ms Clunies-Ross smiled at the man and told him "I am going to destroy you", Ms Burrows said.
Then her longer-term boyfriend Peter Gurdulic, also a 19-year-old Darwin-based soldier, arrived with a big vibrator which she used on her victim in a one-hour ordeal.
The court was told the long-term boyfriend took photos and short videos of the attack and threatened to publish them on an army computer hard drive, accessible to all soldiers, if the victim did not do what he was told.
Ms Burrows said the man fled in a taxi after being released. He reported the assault to police in Darwin after seeking advice from a senior officer.
In pre-recorded evidence, made before he deployed to Iraq, the victim said Clunies-Ross smiled during his ordeal, during which Gurdulic brandished a large knife and the pair hit him across his kidneys.
"I yelled quite loud but being gagged it wouldn't come out," he said.
In a police interview Clunies-Ross denied the attack was a form of payback and admitted holding the vibrator near his anus.
Clunies-Ross' lawyer Jeremy Scudds said she denied actually penetrating her restrained lover.
Mr Scudds said she was scared of Gurdulic but had no idea what would happen when the unstable man arrived at her flat, angry that his fellow soldier had "whiteanted" him and then made a move on Clunies-Ross.
"He was the type of man who was domineering and controlling," he said.
Gurdulic was found dead in unsuspicious circumstances at Leeuwin Barracks in November 2006 after being charged over the alleged attack.
this was really "not his lucky day". as a soldier i think he would have been prepared to fend off a viscious vibrator attack but have been cuffed he was screwed..................literally.
Eight taken to hospital after eating questionable muffins at Que trade school
Police in Repentigny, near Montreal, say the class was celebrating the end of a course at a trade school this morning when students began to fall ill. Police spokesman Guy Belair says an 18-year-old student brought the muffins to class.
Belair says the student could face a wide range of charges including drug-related accusations.
The eight people, the majority of them between 16 and 18, were taken to Pierre-Le-Gardeur Hospital in Repentigny, but officials say they're doing well.
Belair says the muffins will be analyzed to determine what exactly the students and teacher ingested.

Police: 'One-Man Crime Spree' Arrested For 99th Time
His longest stint in prison was for four years.
McCants was on parole when police linked him to a series of burglaries in East Garden City, N.Y., including a break-in at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Investigators said he steals laptops and then sells them.
Because 67 of his 78 convictions were for misdemeanors, he has received relatively short prison sentences.
Police, who are frustrated by the case, are demanding that prosecutors and judges give McCants a longer sentence than he has received in the past.
In a statement, Nassau's district attorney promised to "push hard for significant upstate prison time for this career criminal."
Sex bomb gives off bad vibrations
Bomb disposal experts were called to the north west of the city on Wednesday after a concerned janitor called the police. While out sweeping rubbish from a parking lot, he had noticed a small parcel moving about in a most unusual manner. Police arriving at the scene immediately sealed off the area and called in the bomb squad. A recent spate of infighting among rival gangs has put police in the city on high alert. But on this occasion the infamous west coast biker gangs can probably be ruled out of the equation. When, having excerised great care, the explosives experts finally got the package open they discovered nothing more dangerous than a throbbing vibrator. Relieved police officers were able to remove the cordons before taking the battery-operated toy to the local station."But we don't really expect anybody to come asking for it," spokesman Jan Strannegård told Göteborgs-Posten.

U.S. wives find place in strict Saudi society
Malof proposed the idea at the King Fahad National Guard Hospital, where she has worked for more than a decade. It was supposed to be discreet, but rumors were whispered amid veils and hijabs that the lithe, blond nurse, raised on farmland at the edge of Appalachia, was planning to celebrate a Christian tradition in an Islamic kingdom that forbids the practicing of other religions.
"Even though I'm a Muslim too, I like to celebrate the holidays and have gift exchanges," said Malof, a convert to Islam who is married to the son of a former Saudi ambassador. "But word got out, and the religious people came with a fatwa (or edict) against the Santa party."
For American women married to Saudi men, such is life in this exotic, repressive and often beguiling society where tribal customs and religious fervor rub against oil wealth and the tinted-glass skyscrapers that rise Oz-like in the blurry desert heat. This is not a land of the First Amendment and voting rights; it is a kingdom run by the strict interpretation of Wahhabi Islam, where abayas hang in foyers, servants linger like ghosts, minarets glow in green neon and, as a recent court case showed, a woman who is raped can also be sentenced to 200 lashes for un-Islamic behavior.
"Haram, haram" (forbidden, forbidden). American wives know the phrase well. It is learned over years of peeking through veils at supermarkets or sitting in the back of SUVs while Filipino drivers glide through traffic.
Freedom lies behind courtyard walls, where private swimming pools glimmer and the eyes of the religious police do not venture. Rock 'n' roll (haram) is played, smuggled whiskey (haram) is sipped, and Christianity (haram) sometimes is practiced.
"American women get together and we talk," said Lori Baker, a mother of two who met her Saudi husband at Ohio State University in 1982. "We ask one another, 'Where are you on your curve now? Have you hit bottom yet?' We all go through the highs and lows when it comes to moods and tolerance. ... When I first got here, I felt naked without my head scarf."
As the wife of a Saudi living off a busy Riyadh street, she said she's not completely embraced by Americans living in gated communities, but she also feels estranged within Saudi society.
It is a strange place, Bakersaid, to live between two worlds, one of quilting clubs and cookouts, the other of prayers and isolation. "You have to do soul searching and really define who you are," she said.
"My husband is the man of my dreams, and I decided to go wherever that took us."
shes a dumbass for wanting to be part of any religion that would treat women so poorly, i have no sympathy.
Police Investigate Shooting Of 2 Poodles

500-pound NYPD officer loses pension bid
NEW YORK - A retired 500-pound police officer cannot increase his pension check by blaming his disability on an accident, because a medical board had already found it was related to his obesity, a judge said.
Paul Soto, 40, had requested a larger retirement pension, claiming that a fall at an apartment while on duty injured his knee and prevented him from full performance as a police officer.
The Police Pension Fund medical board rejected the application, and in May 2006 it recommended that he be allowed to retire with an ordinary disability pension, which pays an officer a taxable pension of half his salary. An accidental disability retirement pays a nontaxable pension of three-fourths his salary.
The board said Soto had already been found disabled in August 2004 "because he was morbidly obese and had numerous other ailments which made it impossible for him to be a police officer, including high blood pressure and narcolepsy." He also had been placed on limited duty.
Judge: Soto hadn't performed 'full duties'Soto joined the New York Police Department in August 1993, when he stood 5 feet 7 and weighed 250 pounds.
State Supreme Court Justice Judith Gische, noting that Soto now weighs "in excess of 500 pounds," cited the board's remark that Soto "had not performed his full duties as a police officer since 2003." She said in her ruling last month that he had been on restricted duty for his own protection.
Soto's lawyer, Philip Seelig, said Wednesday he was disappointed by the judge's decision. He said he had not discussed with Soto whether to appeal.
there was a time when a fat pig would have just been fired. his knee was injured because he weighs a quarter ton. it collapsed. he should never been allowed to become a cop in the first place.

Woman Admits To Leaving Newborn To Die In Restroom
She will face up to 40 years in prison when she is sentenced on Feb. 28.
The body of the full-term newborn boy was found in the women's restroom of Legends Bar and Grill by a janitor on June 26, 2004. The newborn was stuffed in a plastic bag, at the bottom of the trash bin, covered in a layer of trash, according to the arrest affidavit.
According to the arrest affidavit, Pendleton continued bar-hopping with her friends after she had delivered.
Two friends who were with Pendleton told police that she left their table for about 90 minutes and was later found in the women's restroom clutching a vest around her waist. She told her friends that she had passed a kidney stone and was bleeding.
The women then left the bar and went to the home of one of the friends, where Pendleton borrowed some clothes to replace her bloody outfit. After changing, she left with her friends for another bar, where they continued drinking, the affidavit said.
Detectives were able to locate Pendleton by tracing a credit card receipt used in the bar after a waiter described a woman "layered in clothing and acting ill."
The Denver coroner said the infant was born alive but died of asphyxiation.

Man Drives Car Into McDonalds After Not Getting Fries
Jacksonville police said David Spillers drove through the play area and smashed into the side of a McDonald's restaurant and then sped off. Police tracked him down by following a trail of broken glass to his car, which was parked at a nearby apartment complex.
No one was injured in the incident. Spillers is facing several charges.
