Mayor John M. Fabrizi admitted Tuesday he had abused cocaine while in office and said he wanted to apologize "to all the people of the city" but had no plans to resign.
The admission followed the inadvertent release of an FBI document in which an alleged drug dealer claimed an associate had a videotape of the mayor using cocaine.
In a tearful speech to about 200 city employees and residents in City Council chambers Tuesday, Fabrizi said he had not used drugs in 18 months and had sought help for a drug addiction that he had hoped to handle privately.
READING, Pa. (AP) - June 21, 2006 - Officials in Reading say a man was electrocuted on Tuesday, apparently while trying to steal what he probably thought was copper wire from atop a 50-foot utility pole.
Fire Chief William Rehr says employee found the victim, 33-year-old Samuel Ortiz-Valle, about 15 feet from the base of the Met-Ed pole at Cambridge Lee Industries Incorporated.
Police Captain Francis Drexler says a pair of wire cutters was found next to the body, leading investigators to believe that Ortiz-Valle intended to cut down the wires to resell as scrap metal.
Rehr says Ortiz-Valle apparently climbed the pole, and while grabbing a metal platform, touched one of three high-voltage wires with his head.
The Berks County coroner's office ruled the death an accident.
accept resposibility...........no way. why should anyone accept responsibility for their actions. thats the kind of crazy talk thats allowing us to fall behind the chinese. that kind of reasoning is what is causing our children to fall behind all of europes kids. why should a mayor of a small town be asked to step down when we couldnt get the mayor of d.c. to step down (and voted him back in). actually he should be applauded for being the most honest politician in the country today. as for the other idiot, good riddance. somewhere darwin is shaking his head. if this isnt natural selection at its finest then what is. you can rest assured that this kids family will be sueing somebody over this. maybe the poles werent high enough, maybe they shouldnt have tempted him with all that expensive copper. whatever, it couldnt possibly be his fault.
yeah its tuesday, any more rain and i'm starting an ark.
