Canadian ferry crews warned against smoking pot

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Ferry crews on Canada's West Coast who work under the influence of marijuana endanger the lives of passengers, safety officials said on Wednesday, in response to allegations of cannabis smoking on board one of the ships.
Canada's Transportation Safety Board issued a warning note to BC Ferries Corp after the board said it had learned that that several crew members of the ferry Queen of the North, which sank last year after running into island, "regularly smoked cannabis between shifts, both on board and off the vessel".
The federal agency said it heard the allegations of marijuana use while investigating the sinking, but said there was no evidence that the bridge crew of the Queen of the North was under the influence of cannabis at the time of the accident on March 22, 2006.
The board, which has not yet released its report on the cause of the sinking, which killed two people, did not say from whom it heard the allegations of marijuana use, but its investigation has included interviews with all crew members.
"Ferry crews whose performance is impaired by cannabis are a clear risk to the travelling public," chairwoman Wendy Tadros said in a statement.
The board said it wanted BC Ferries, the British Columbia government-owned ferry service, to find out the extent of marijuana use on other ships in its fleet, and to review its policies on drugs and alcohol use. BC Ferries has not commented on the board's report.
The safety board said it would be monitoring the ferry service's actions on drug use, but did not say it planned any disciplinary action against either the company or crew members who might have used marijuana.

Drinking + driving + speeding + texting + freight train... this should end well

Man Texting While Driving Hits Train

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — When Robert Gillespie looked up from his text message, he saw a freight train. EOM. ("End of message," that is, for non-texters.) Eugene police say Gillespie's car crashed into the side of the Union Pacific freight train about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they found him alert and talking, but trapped in the car. They learned about the cell phone and text message as they worked to rescue him.
Gillespie, who had turned 38 the day before, was charged with drunken driving and careless driving, police spokeswoman Kerry Delf said. His injuries were described as not life threatening, and no members of the train crew were hurt.
Delf said officers believe he was driving faster than the 35 mph speed limit as well as using his cell phone to send a text message. She said he tried to brake for the train, but it was too close.
"There are all kinds of ways to get distracted these days," said police spokeswoman Kerry Delf. "We don't recommend any of them while you're driving."

who didnt know that would end poorly..................

Last 'Rat Pack' member Joey Bishop dies

The Rat Pack once was the coolest group of entertainers on the planet — Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis Jr. Oh, yeah, and a stone-faced comedian named Joey Bishop.
Although not as widely appreciated, it was Bishop with his deadpan delivery, dead-on timing and bottomless pit of jokes, who was "the hub of the big wheel," according to Rat Pack leader Sinatra himself.
Bishop, who also starred on two TV shows throughout most of the 1960s, died Wednesday at age 89. He turned out to be the Rat Pack's last man standing, having outlived Sinatra, Martin, Davis and Lawford.

Man wins $4 mil. in case vs. cops
POLICE REOPEN PROBE Says officers assaulted him with a screwdriver, claimed he had drugs

The Chicago Police Department has agreed to pay $4 million to a 23-year-old man who says police shoved a screwdriver into his behind.
The announcement came moments after a jury of nine women and men ruled that they believed Coprez Coffie over the two police officers who testified they had no idea where that screwdriver in their squad car's glove compartment came from.
"I just told my story because I wanted justice," said Coffie, who was 19 when the incident occurred. "People need to know what's going on."
The head of the Police Department's Office of Professional Standards, which earlier had cleared the officers of any wrongdoing, said Tuesday she now will re-open the investigation, as required by the city's new ordinance governing her office.
Coffie and his mother said the officers should be fired. Annette Coffie said it galled her during the trial to watch the officers testify that her son had drugs and that they never assaulted him: "... them sitting up there, saying that they did nothing," she said, her voice choking with emotion.
Coffie's attorney, Jon Loevy, said he is not optimistic the department will ever hold its own accountable.
"The Police Department does not do an effective job policing themselves. ... Why can't the Police Department see what everybody else sees?" said Loevy, who noted that in all six million-dollar-plus verdicts he has won against the department in recent years, OPS had exonerated the officers in every case. "And nothing is going to happen now."
After the verdict was announced, new OPS director Ilana Rosenzweig said, "We are supposed to review all cases settled by the Department of Law to examine any new evidence or different evidence that was presented in the trial and determine whether that has any impact on our investigation. We can change the outcome."
John Gorman, spokesman for Cook County State's Attorney Dick Devine, said "We'll take a look at any evidence that OPS brings to us."
There were tears on the officers' side of the courtroom and smiles and hugs on Coffie's side. The officers, Gerald Lodwich and Scott Korhonen, left without making any comments.
As the jurors -- three white men, four white women, one black woman and one Hispanic woman -- left the federal courthouse, they smiled and waved at Coffie and said "God bless you" and "Good luck."
Coffie, a bagger at Jewel Food Stores, said he would have good use for the money: "I'm going to take care of my son and my family. I'm going back to school."
As jurors deliberated over the weekend, Loevy and attorneys for the city agreed that if jurors ruled for the officers, Coffie would get nothing. If they ruled for Coffie, he would get $4 million and his attorneys $675,000 -- pending appeals, a Law Department spokeswoman said.
Lodwich referred any questions to the city's corporation counsel.
A relative of Korhonen's answered the door at his North Side home Tuesday night. She said the officer wasn't home, but she offered a comment:
"We think it is sad for someone to get money for something like this -- especially since it is not true," she said.

i understand that cops have a rough job. i've seen the show "cops" and if it was me i'd be tasering people every day but damn. how mad do you have to be shove a screwdriver up a guys ass. and why would they keep the screwdriver afterwards. well , i dont know that much about the case but if they did it then they should have to pay. with great power comes great responsibility.

if only we could teach that to our president

Malaysian woman claims rape after sex with 'wrong man'

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: A Malaysian woman who had sex with a houseguest says she mistakenly thought the man was her husband and has filed a complaint that she was raped, police said Tuesday.
The 40-year-old housewife in eastern Terengganu state alleged that her husband was away at work when she went to bed early Friday morning after making preparations for the annual Eid al-Fitr festival that weekend, said K. Manoharan, Terengganu deputy criminal investigation chief.
An hour later, she claimed a man whom she thought was her husband snuggled into bed and that they had sex although she didn't see his face, he said.
She only realized her mistake when her husband returned and asked her about seeing their guest, who is his colleague, leaving her room, he said. The couple later lodged a complaint with police that she was raped, Manoharan said.
"We are a bit suspicious on the claims made by the victim. It's strange — a woman not knowing if it's her husband or not," Manoharan told the Associated Press.
None of the three people were identified.
Police questioned the guest, a 29-year-old laborer who has been staying with the couple for the past two months, and released him on bail, he said. Investigations are continuing, he said, declining to give further information.

this may be the worst lie since "yeah, i smoked a joint...but i didnt inhale". what was the lie she turned down because it was too unbelievable. if this lie was your best option then your in deep shit.

Bride sues over flower color

NEW YORK (AP) -- The wedding was lovely, except for the flowers: They were the wrong color.
So says the bride, Elana Glatt, who was so upset that she sued the florist and alleged breach of contract.
She says Posy Floral Design in Manhattan substituted pastel pink and green hydrangeas for the dark rust and green ones she had specified for 22 centerpieces.
Not only that, she alleges that the hydrangeas were wilted and brown, and arranged in dusty vases without enough water.
"The use of predominantly pastel centerpieces had a significant impact on the look of the room and was entirely inconsistent with the vision the plaintiffs had bargained for," Glatt, a lawyer, said in the lawsuit, filed on behalf of herself, her husband, David, and her mother-in-law, Tobi Glatt, who paid for the flowers.
The flowers cost $27,435.14. The lawsuit asks for more than $400,000 in restitution and damages.
Stamos Arakas, the florist, said that he and his wife, Paula, tried to match the color of the hydrangeas with a picture Glatt had given them, but explained to her that the colors might not look the same.
"My father used to tell me, 'Don't deal with the lawyers," Arakas said. "Maybe he was right, God bless his soul."

hey mr arakas, your father was a smart man. only a goddamn lawyer would ask for almost 15 times what the flowers are worth. i wish i was sitting on this jury. i would laugh all through the trial, all the way to the room ,all through deliberation and then through the acquital of the florist. only at that point would i tell the lawyer that i did it because she was such an asshole. whats putting this florist out of business going to solve.

needless to say .. i hate lawyers

Is this Pope John Paul II waving from beyond the grave? Vatican TV director says yes

This fiery figure is being hailed as Pope John Paul II making an appearance beyond the grave.
The image, said by believers to show the Holy Father with his right hand raised in blessing, was spotted during a ceremony in Poland to mark the second anniversary of his death.
Details appeared on the Vatican News Service, a TV station in Rome which specialises in religious news broadcasts.
Service director Jarek Cielecki, a Polish priest and close friend of John Paul II, travelled to Poland after hearing an onlooker had photographed the image.
Father Cielecki said he was convinced the picture showed the former pontiff.
"You can see the image of a person in the flames and I think it is the servant of God, Pope John Paul II," he said.
The pictures were being broadcast continuously on Italian TV and also posted on religious websites, some of which crashed as thousands logged on to see for themselves the eerie figure formed by the flames.
The bonfire was lit during a service at Beskid Zywiecki, close to John Paul's birthplace at Katowice, southern Poland, on April 2 - the second anniversary of his death.
Hundreds had attended the ceremony. Gregorz Lukasik, the Polish man who took the photographs, said: "It was only afterwards when I got home and looked at the pictures that I realised I had something.
"I showed them to my brother and sister and they, like me, were convinced the flames had formed the image of Pope John Paul II.
"I was so happy with the picture that I showed it to our local bishop who said that Pope John Paul had made many pilgrimages during his life and he was still making them in death."

can this really be put out from the people who condem harry potter? the dead pope? i thouht it was grimace from mcdonalds calling from the grave. needless to say if this is all pope john paul can do then hes definitely not a saint. i would expect more from someone so favored.

A real hero......

HOGANAS, Sweden (CNN) -- Swedish artist Lars Vilks says all he's doing is taking a stand in the name of artistic expression. But because of that stand, on this afternoon he's lying low -- on the ground, in fact -- looking for bombs under his car.

Al Qaeda has put a $100,000 price on his head and offered an extra $50,000 for anyone who murders him by slitting his throat after the eccentric artist and sculptor drew a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed as a dog.
"I don't think it should not be a problem to insult a religion, because it should be possible to insult all religions in a democratic way, " says Vilks from his home in rural Sweden.
"If you insult one, then you should insult the other ones."
His crude, sketched caricature shows the head of Prophet Mohammed on the body of a dog. Dogs are considered unclean by conservative Muslims, and any depiction of the prophet is strictly forbidden.
Vilks, who has been a controversial artist for more than three decades in Sweden, says his drawing was a calculated move, and he wanted it to illicit a reaction.

"That's a way of expressing things. If you don't like it, don't look at it. And if you look at it, don't take it too seriously. No harm done, really," he says.
When it's suggested that might prove an arrogant -- if not insulting -- way to engage Muslims, he is unrelenting, even defiant.
"No one actually loves the truth, but someone has to say it," he says.
Vilks, a self-described atheist, points out he's an equal opportunity offender who in the past sketched a depiction of Jesus as a pedophile.
Still one could argue Vilks should have known better because of what happened in Denmark in 2005, when a cartoonist's depictions of the prophet sparked violent protests in the Muslim world and prompted death threats against that cartoonist's life.
Vilks' cartoon, which was published in August by the Swedish newspaper Nerikes Allehanda, hasn't reached that level of global protests, although it has stoked plenty of outrage.
Muslims in Sweden demanded an apology from the newspaper, which has stood by Vilks on his freedom of expression stand. Pakistan and Iran also lodged formal protests with Sweden.
One Swedish Muslim woman who lives just an hour-and-a-half drive from Vilks said she hopes to make good on the al Qaeda threat and slaughter Vilks like a lamb.

"I can do this in the name of Allah, and I will not fail. I could slaughter him in the name of Allah," says the woman who identified herself only as Amatullah.
She adds, "If I get the opportunity."
Dressed in a black burqa from head to toe and uttering death threat after death threat, the woman -- a wife and mother -- says she is defending her religion and her prophet if she manages to kill Vilks.
Amatullah has already been fined for issuing death threats. Still, she claims she will never stop taunting him.
Swedish police, who declined CNN's request for an interview, have advised Vilks to abandon his home.
But the artist still works there by day and travels to a safe house by night. Vilks knows his defiance could get him killed, but he says his art is worth dying for.
As he sits at his computer, his phone buzzes with a text message. Another death threat has just come in, this one from Pakistan.
"I will kill you, you son a bitch," he reads.

There are hundreds of threats just like this one on his mobile phone, on his answering machine and in his e-mail inbox.
"You get used to it," he says. "It's a bit of hide and seek. It's like living in a film."

he should be protected with everything they got. this guy is showing what a bunch of cowards and assholes these fundamentalist muslims are. religion will be the downfall of the world. i guess allah doesnt have much of a sense of humor for a deity.

Two different break-in's.........

Teen Encounters Black Bear in Kitchen

KENAI, Alaska (AP) - A man awakened by a bump in the night went to investigate and found an intruder, but it wasn't a burglar. Instead, Blaine Harling found himself face to snout with a black bear that had come in through an open window.
Harling, 19, has been staying at the cabin belonging to his grandparents, Vic and Jill Harling. Vic Harling said his grandson was sleeping in the basement Oct. 7 when a noise upstairs woke him.
"He thought it was the blinds flopping in the window from a two feet wide, by five feet high, crank-out window that he had left open for ventilation," he said.
The screened window was open just 18 inches, but that was enough for the adult black bear to slip through

"He walked into the kitchen and it was just standing there, about three feet away, in front of the refrigerator," Harling said. "So he grabbed the first thing he could which was a shampoo bottle, or a lotion bottle, something like that, and he whipped it at the bear and then he took-off back down to basement."
Harling pushed a dresser in front of the door and called Alaska State Troopers, who contacted the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
The teenager also called his grandparents. After he persuaded them he wasn't joking, they told him how to unlock their gun cabinet and he armed himself with a .44-caliber and a .45-caliber handgun, said Jill Harling.
Wildlife technician Larry Lewis reached the Harling's cabin at about 2 a.m. The emergency officials blasted a siren to frighten the bear.
"We spotlighted the house and saw a big black bear out back in the alders, but we couldn't say for certain that it was the same bear," Lewis said.

Lewis and state troopers searched the two-story home to make sure it contained no bears.
"We went room to room, but there were no other signs, so the bear we saw out back must have been the same one that was seen inside," Lewis said. "We think it went out the same window it came in, which was pretty lucky for the homeowner. Had it been a brown bear, they usually exit by making their own hole."
Jill Harling said her grandson created more of a mess by splattering the lotion bottle off the bear's head than the bear did. She and her husband, awakened shortly after 1 a.m. by their grandson, reached the cabin by about 6 a.m.
"It moved a few things around, ate a few muffins that were left out, pulled the garbage out and spread it around, and left nose and paw prints on mirrors and the TV., but there was no real damage," said Vic Harling. "It was amazing really. It didn't even knock over lamps near where it came in."
What the family believes was the same bear appeared on their deck that night. This time, all entrance point to the house were secured.
They're keeping their firearms closer in case the bear returns.
"I wouldn't mind having some bear meat in the freezer," Jill Harling said

nice granma. first you have to convince them you might be eaten to explain how to get into the gun cabinet and then she bitches about the kid making a mess. if it was me she would have been cleaning up a completely different mess...if you get my drift.

and now, another story with a different ending

Woman, 81, Shoots Homeless 'Washer'

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - An 81-year-old woman shot a homeless man Monday morning after finding him washing his clothes in her laundry room, police said.
Ethel Sanders told people she heard noises in her laundry room and found a man standing in his underwear near the washing machine when she went to investigate, police spokesman Officer Eric Gallichant told the Press-Register.
Sanders was carrying a handgun and shot the man when he came at her, Gallichant said. Sanders fell to the ground and dropped the gun after firing, Gallichant said.
The man grabbed the gun, pointed it at Sanders and took his clothes from the washing machine, Gallichant said.
The man fled and Sanders called police just before 8 a.m. Officers caught the man at the nearby Plateau Community Center.
James Penn, 25, was taken to University of South Alabama Medical Center. Gallichant said he is expected to survive. Upon release from the hospital, Penn will be charged with first-degree burglary, Gallichant said.

i guess he should have been in the frig when she caught him. why doesnt he just take some of the money he begs from people and use a laundromat? of course, if he was rational he probably wouldnt be homeless now would he. you gotta love an old ladty with a handgun. i put it right behind a one-eyed nun with a bottle of whiskey and a bullwhip.

Cops Bust 'Erotic Live Show' in Chicago Basement After Seeing Craigslist Ad

CHICAGO — Police last week arrested five people after a Craigslist ad promised live sex and sex acts in a Chicago apartment building near a school and a church, MyFoxChicago reports.
"Being that we have a lot of children around here, it brings the wrong message to the neighborhood," one Humboldt Park resident said.
Police said the ad promised an "erotic live show" where couples would have sex. In addition, refreshments would be served and cameras allowed for $240. For $200 more, attendees could receive sex acts, the report said.
The five arrested include Denis Kelly, 60, the building's owner; Praveena Omakupe, 22; Lauren Dunne, 22; Augustus Lewellen, 22; and Quncy Gilbert, 30, who face multiple charges including prostitution.

why do i get the feeling that these arent chicks you would want to see naked....just sayin is all.

Embattled Calif. Dentist Says Breast Rubs Necessary

WOODLAND, Calif. — A dentist accused of fondling the breasts of 27 female patients is trying to keep his dental license by arguing that chest massages are an appropriate procedure in certain cases. Mark Anderson's lawyer says dental journals discuss the need to massage the pectoral muscles to treat a common jaw problem.
Police say Anderson said during recorded phone calls that he routinely massaged patients' chests to treat temporo-mandibular joint disorder, or TMJ, which causes neck and head pain.
Attorney Robert Zaro told administrative law judge Jonathan Lew at a hearing Thursday that he should let Anderson keep his dental license while disciplinary appeals proceed. Anderson would be supervised by two assistants and would no longer do the chest rubs, Zaro said.
Zaro said Anderson, 48, of Woodland, needs to keep seeing patients so he can feed his seven children and pay for his defense.
The judge made no immediate decision.
Lew suspended Anderson's dental license last month. He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery and sexual battery. Yolo County prosecutors are investigating complaints from more than two dozen women who say they also were groped in the examining chair in the last five years.
Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Phillips gave Lew three new complaints, including one from a 31-year-old woman who said Anderson fondled her at least six times over two years.
She took to wearing tight shirts with high necklines, "and Anderson would still get in under her shirt and bra," according to a police report.

this kind of coincides with the guy who cuts my hair who tells me that a reach around is part of getting a good style. c'mon folks, just pull his license and call it a day. hes a perv. nobody gets a chest rub for their jaw though, on the other hand, i might give mrs. pissed a lesson on dentistry tonight.

What does this say about your state......

Larry Craig, Hall of Famer
Not even a sex-sting arrest and an on-again, off-again guilty plea can keep Idaho's senior senator from induction into the pantheon of Gem State greats.

His GOP colleagues in the U.S. Senate may wish him gone. But Larry Craig will always have a home in the Idaho Hall of Fame. This Saturday in Boise, Craig will join 11 other distinguished citizens of the Gem State in what promises to be a squirm-worthy induction ceremony. Since its creation in 1995, the Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization, has been honoring the state's leaders and historical figures—including World War II flying ace Gregory (Pappy) Boyington, actress Lana Turner and Sacagawea, the American Indian woman who helped guide the Lewis and Clark expedition. Organizers bristle at the suggestion that Craig should be disinvited following the uproar over his guilty plea for disorderly conduct in a restroom sex sting, and his refusal to resign from the Senate as he'd initially discussed—even after a Minneapolis judge last week rejected his motion to withdraw the guilty plea. "He was nominated well before this happened," says Hall of Fame president Charles Indermuehle. "We will have our dinner, and we're looking forward to it."
It may be the most determined culinary performance since Martha Stewart appeared on the CBS "Early Show" grimly chopping cabbage after she was indicted on federal charges of insider trading. "There are times when we've tried our damnedest to get some publicity," says Hall of Fame board member William Vaughn Jr., adding that the organization stuck with Craig because of his record representing Idaho in Congress for 27 years. "He sure as hell isn't being honored for the last few months," Vaughn says. "We try to look beyond personalities and look at the facts of what they've accomplished." Still, he admits it's hard not to cringe at reminders of Craig's newfound fame—such as the sticker he saw in a men's room during an out-of-state vacation proclaiming CRAIG WAS HERE. (The vote to include honorees in the Hall of Fame is made by a subcommittee of the board and then approved by the entire group. That process was completed before news of Craig's arrest was made public.)
Although the Hall of Fame is still trying to raise money to build a museum (one can only imagine the Craig exhibit), Saturday's ceremony, featuring a dinner, plaques and handshakes, promises to be exquisitely awkward. (Pre-printed invitations to the ceremony laud Craig's service this way: "Thirty years of exemplary political service to the State of Idaho and the country speaks for itself.") But while the late-night talk-show hosts sharpen their blades, and the blogs snicker about the "Idaho Hall of Shame," the humor is lost on others. "He seems to have the hide of a rhinoceros," says fellow honoree Arthur Hart, a Boise historian who plans to bring his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the ceremony. "I wish he wouldn't come. That isn't very nice for the rest of us."
placeAd2(commercialNode,'bigbox',false,'')

While Idahoans are a forgiving—and stoic—lot, it has not been easy becoming the butt of a nation's jokes. A recent poll by local television station KIVI found that 51 percent of Idahoans oppose Craig's decision to stay in the Senate. Several of Craig's fellow hall-of-famers have become players the "will he or won't he?" resignation saga. Gov. C.L. (Butch) Otter, who will also be inducted Saturday, scrambled to put together a list of replacements after Craig signaled his intention to resign. Otter, a fellow Republican who has said publicly "it would be best for Idaho" if Craig left the Senate, spent hours vetting potential candidates only to find out that there wouldn't be a vacancy after all. Lt. Gov. Jim Risch, who plans to be right there gripping and grinning onstage, announced this week that he intends to run for Craig's seat—whether or not the incumbent is still in it—in next year's election. Declaring his candidacy, Risch acknowledged the "considerable personal suffering" Craig and his family have endured, but added, "it's really time for Idaho to move forward." Other nominees include local television news anchor Dee Sarton, who has been reporting the Craig scandal for months. One honoree who may have chosen the wisest course: Boise State football coach Chris Petersen, nominated for his role in leading the school's team to its 2006 Fiesta Bowl victory over the University of Oklahoma Sooners, can't make it, says a spokesman. He's got a game the next day.

Sen. Craig to File Appeal Over Judge's Refusal to Withdraw Guilty Plea

BOISE, Idaho — Sen. Larry Craig says he will file an appeal Monday over a judge's refusal to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea stemming from his arrest in an airport bathroom sex sting.
In an interview Sunday with KTVB-TV, Craig repeated he will not resign his post in the Senate and said he will continue to work his legal options.
"It is my right to do what I'm doing," said Craig, an Idaho Republican. "I've already provided for Idaho certainty that Idaho needed — I'm not running for re-election. I'm no longer in the way. I am pursuing my constitutional rights."
Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in August after he was accused of soliciting sex in a bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport in June.
After the matter became public, Craig tried to withdraw his plea. But a judge in Minnesota refused, saying Craig's plea "was accurate, voluntary and intelligent, and ... supported by the evidence."

Mate's testicle shot off by accident, court told

A CAR dealer who found a handgun in a caryard he bought accidentally shot his friend in the testicle while playing with the firearm, a court was told yesterday.
Both men then lied about the shooting to police, telling them it occurred during a robbery.
Mark Anthony Cheers, 39, pleaded guilty in Southport District Court yesterday to assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, possessing an unlicensed weapon and carrying dangerous goods in a vehicle.
The court was told Cheers found the gun in a business he had bought and twirled it around his finger while showing it to his friend, Phillip Marino.
The gun discharged, shooting Marino in the scrotum and groin. He lost 15 per cent of his right testicle, the court was told.
Cheers threw the gun in a canal but later recanted the robbery story and admitted he had shot his friend.
Judge Fleur Kingham sentenced Cheers to 200 hours' community service.
Outside court, Cheers' lawyer, Cameron Browne, said Marino had forgiven Cheers.
"One of the most pleasing aspects of this case is that prior to today, the complainant contacted my client and said he still wished to have a beer with him after all this was over," Mr Browne said.
"That in itself is a significant testament to the fact that this offence was extremely out of character for my client, and one he sincerely regrets."

wow, what a friend. remember people, guns dont kill people...they shoot off their testicles. and might i say that this a great friend if he will still, talk to you after that little stunt. i can just imagine the conversation years from now.....

marino: hey dude, remember when i shortsheeted your bed at camp
cheers: yeah. hey, remember when i shot your balls off? pants fit better dont they?

Sunam is bride-to-be... aged 3

A BRIDE-to-be peers shyly through her veil – at the age of just THREE.
Little Sunam is among the 16 per cent of Afghan children married before they reach 15.
Her dad Parvez promised Sunam to her seven-year-old cousin Nieem. It was a gift to the lad’s mum, Parvez’s sister, who wanted a daughter.
The children, from Kabul, will probably marry when they are 14 or 15. Their aunt Najiba says the match is “unbreakable” and they will not be able to divorce under tribe traditions.
The minimum legal age of marriage in Afghanistan is 16 for girls and 18 for boys.
But many wed earlier, as a bride can fetch twice the average yearly salary for her family.
Human rights groups are calling for the practice to end. Manizha Naderi, of Women for Afghan Women, said: “It’s barbaric.”

can we just nuke them now and start over? this isnt third world or even fifth world its the middle "goddamn" ages. these people shouldnt be allowed to have kids at all.

I guess you can tell the truth when your done being paid to lie....

Sanchez: Iraq war 'a nightmare with no end in sight'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A former commander of coalition forces in Iraq issued a harsh assessment of U.S. management of the war, saying that American political leaders cost American lives on the battlefield with their "lust for power."

Retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, coalition commander in 2003 and 2004, called the Iraq war "a nightmare with no end in sight," for which he said the Bush administration, the State Department and Congress all share blame.
Sanchez told a group of military reporters in Arlington, Virginia, on Friday that such dereliction of duty by a military officer would mean immediate dismissal or court martial, but the politicians have not been held accountable.

He said the Iraq war plan from the start was "catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic," and the administration has not provided the resources necessary for victory, which he said the military could never achieve on its own.
Still, he said, the U.S. cannot pull out of Iraq without causing chaos that would have global implications.

"After more than four years of fighting, America continues its desperate struggle in Iraq without any concerted effort to devise a strategy that will achieve victory in that war torn country or in the greater conflict against extremism," Sanchez said.
Sanchez pointed to what he said was "neglect and incompetence at the National Security Council level" which has put the U.S. military into "an intractable situation" in Iraq.

NSC spokeswoman Kate Starr issued a short response to Sanchez Friday evening:
"We appreciate his service to the country. As General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker said, there's more work to be done but progress is being made in Iraq. And that's what we're focused on now."
Sanchez, who retired in 2006, said it was his duty to obey orders and not object publicly when he was on active duty, but now that he is retired he has an obligation to speak out.

"While the politicians espouse a rhetoric designed to preserve their reputations and their political power, our soldiers die," he said.
The administration, he said, has ignored messages from field commanders that warned repeatedly that "our military alone could not achieve victory" without corresponding help from the State Department.
"Our National leadership ignored the lessons of World War Two as we entered into this war and to this day continue to believe that victory can be achieved through the application of military power alone," he said.
"From a catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan, to the administration's latest surge strategy, this administration has failed to employ and synchronize its political, economical and military power," he said.

"From a catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan, to the administration's latest surge strategy, this administration has failed to employ and synchronize its political, economical and military power," he said.
Sanchez said the current strategy, which included a "surge" of troops into Iraq, was "a desperate attempt by the administration that has not accepted the political and economic realities of this war and they have definitely not been able to communicate effectively that reality to the American people."
"Too often, our politicians have been distracted and they have chosen loyalty to their political parties above loyalty to the Constitution because of their lust for power," he said.
Congress, he said, has failed its job of oversight.
"Who will demand accountability for the failure of our national political leadership involved in the management of this war," he said. "They have unquestionably been derelict in in the performance of their duty. In my profession, these types of leaders would be immediately relieved or court-martialed."
Sanchez was pessimistic about the chances of victory in Iraq unless there is a major change in commitment.
"Continued manipulations and adjustments to our military strategy will not achieve victory," he said. "The best we can do with this flawed approach is stave off defeat."
"There is no question America is living a nightmare with no end in sight," he said.
The nightmare will not end, he said, until the partisan struggle for power in Washington ends.

"National efforts to date have been corrupted by partisan politics that have prevented us from devising an effective, executable and supportable strategies," he said. "At times, these partisan struggles have led us to political decisions that endangered the lives of our sons and daughters on the battlefield. The unmistakable message was that political power had greater priority than our national security objectives."
"Overcoming this strategic failure is the first step toward achieving victory in Iraq," he said. "Without bipartisan cooperation, we are doomed to fail. There is nothing going on today in Washington that would give us hope."

The big lie.......

Yes, I am still on hiatus (in other news, the master bedroom is in, we've moved up and it's fabulous!), but I came across a quote today at Time.com that speaks for itself, by Jenna Bush. She was asked:If the war in Iraq is so noble, why aren't you and your sister serving our country there? —Donald Pence, San Francisco

Jenna responded:I understand that point, but there are many ways to serve our country, and I think my skills are better suited for teaching and representing the U.S. in Latin America through UNICEF. I respect the men and women of our country who are over there fighting. It is an unbelievably selfless thing to do. But if people really thought about it, they would know it's not even a practical question.

This is the Young Republican's version of the Big Lie. Because, if you watched Farhenheit 911, you'd know that the other Young Republicans that were interviewed said the very same thing. That there are just SO many different ways to serve thier country---anything but actually joining the armed forces!!!I also cringe at her arrogance, that her situation is less practical than a family whose National Guard member is serving a fourth tour, without his or her normal income, or without his or her presence in the family. How fucking practical is that?Anyone that is still behind this administration is certifiable. You just can't be that obtuse and still be a functional human being.More after my computer is repaired, my house guests reluctantly sent off, and my kitchen completed...

Ann Coulter on CNBC Show: Jews Need 'Perfecting'

NEW YORK Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that they needed to "perfect" themselves into -- Christians. It led Deutsch to suggest that surely she couldn't mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded "anti-Semitic."Asked by Deutsch whether she wanted to be like "the head of Iran" and "wipe Israel off the Earth," Coulter stated: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament."Deutsch told E&P's sibling magazine, Adweek, today, "I was offended. And then, and this was interesting, she started to back off and seemed a little upset."Asked to gauge her reaction, Deutsch said, "I think she got frightened that maybe she had crossed a line, that this was maybe a faux pas of great proportions. I mean, did it show ignorance? Anti-Semitism? It wasn't just one of those silly things."

ann coulter is a bitch, nothing more-nothing less. i am not sure if shes so calculated and sees this as a way to keep her in the news or shes just retarded. if anyones offended by my last statement then let me apologize to retards for comparing them to ann coulter. its funny that a tall , reasonavly good looking blonde can say whatever she wants but if she looked like...well...lets say.....rosie o'donnell then people would be all over her. what she said was stupid and ignorant and yes...anti-semitic. she can spin it any way she wants but shes a bigot.

at least she was smart enough to pick on the jews...unlike the kid in the last story....

Law Student in Trouble After Posting Pat Robertson Photo on Facebook

RICHMOND, Va. — A Regent University law student says school officials have threatened to discipline him for posting an unflattering photo of founder Pat Robertson on his Facebook page.
Adam M. Key, 23, posted on the social-networking Web site a picture of Regent's chancellor and president making what appears to be an obscene gesture. Key copied it from a YouTube video in which Robertson scratches his face with his middle finger.
The second-year law student said officials at the private Christian university in Virginia Beach demanded that he publicly apologize, then withhold public comment about the matter, or submit to the law school dean a legal brief defending the posting. Key chose the latter, arguing that his posting was satire protected under the First Amendment.
"I believe they're wrong from a legal standpoint," the Houston native said in a telephone interview Thursday. "But also, it's important in the Christian faith to be able to criticize our leaders."
According to Key, Dean Jeffrey Brauch rejected his written legal brief, and he now faces disciplinary action — perhaps even expulsion — under the university's standards of personal conduct.

i wonder if the fuss would have been made if the picture was of a muslim or jew. i'm guessing not

Mom Charged With Buying Teen Weapons in School Attack Plot

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. — The mother of a 14-year-old home-schooled student who had a cache of guns, knives and explosive devices in his bedroom was charged Friday with six counts for buying him three weapons.
Michele Cossey bought her son a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, authorities said.
The teenager felt bullied and tried to recruit another boy for the possible attack at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, authorities said.
Police on Wednesday found the rifle, about 30 air-powered guns, swords, knives, a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine attack in Colorado and violence-filled notebooks, Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said. The weapons were plainly visible in the boy's bedroom, he said.

Cossey, 46, of Plymouth Meeting, bought the rifle, which had a laser scope, at a gun show on Sept. 23 and provided police with a receipt, investigators said in court papers. The teenager said the two .22-caliber weapons were stored at a friend's house.
The teen was charged as a juvenile with solicitation to commit terror and other counts and was being held at a youth facility. The teen had a brief court appearance Friday at which he was ordered to remain in juvenile detention.

His mother was charged with unlawful transfer of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, corruption of a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Castor has said he does not believe and attack was imminent or would occur at all. He said Friday that the teen was intelligent, but had a "disturbed mind."
"This was a smart kid that clearly believes he was picked on and was a victim," Castor said. "He had psychological issues and began to act out on those feelings."
Police, who searched home with the permission of the teen's parents, also discovered seven explosive devices Castor has described as homemade grenades: plastic containers filled with BBs to which gunpowder could be added. Authorities said one grenade was operable and the others had been in the process of being assembled.
The search did not turn up any ammunition for the most dangerous firearm in the bunch, the assault rifle.
The teen previously attended middle school in the district but had been taught at home for more than a year after voluntarily leaving school, Castor said.
Plymouth Township police searched the home after getting a tip Wednesday from a high school student and his father.
The arrest came the same day a 14-year-old in Ohio opened fire at his Cleveland high school, wounding four before killing himself.

it has been said that you cant stop them from blowing up so try not to have them go off on your porch. good advice but in this case someone should just take this kid out to the woods and put one into the back of his head. ok, his parents should get one too. who in their right mind gets an assault rifle for a teenager. i understand that you nra nuts are going to say its our right, everyone should have a gun, the founding fathers had them...etc. i understand all that. buy the kid a hunting rifle. assault rifles are made for one thing and one thing only.....taking a human life. you cant hunt with them. the arent particularly accurate. dont throw that founding fathers shit at me either, they used them for hunting. i have no problem with giving this kid a flintlock. the parents are just as much at fault as the kid in this case.

in the old days when you went down to the watering hole and gave everyone the stinkeye someone hit you in the back of the head with a club and that was that..............that isnt a bad idea here.

Don't use embryos in stem cell research, Pope says

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict appealed to scientists on Thursday to stop using human embryos in stem cell research, saying it violated "the dignity of human life".
The Vatican is a proponent of stem cell research as long as it does not harm human embryos, which the Catholic Church holds are humans from the moment of conception.
"The destruction of human embryos, whether to acquire stem cells or for any other purpose, contradicts the purported intent of researchers, legislators and public health officials to promote human welfare," the Pontiff said.
The Church supports research on adult cells and even promising alternatives to embryonic research, like the use of amniotic fluid protecting fetuses in the uterus.
The Pope said such research methods "harmonize with the aforementioned intent (to promote human welfare) by respecting the life of the human being at every stage of his or her existence".
The Pontiff made his statements in a letter to South Korea's new ambassador to the Holy See.
South Korea earlier this year announced plans to removing some of the blocks to human embryonic stem cell research which had been in place since a 2006 scientific scandal involving forged data in stem cell studies.

what does the catholic church know about "the dignity of human life"? all they care about is making more catholics. they are running out of priests and nuns. the payout on their court cases is hurting them financially. could there be any good reason to tell people not to use birth control. since they got one one of the crappy south american countries to ban abortion last year 84 women have died getting "so called" illegal ones . the only human life the catholic church cares about is the one that opens their wallets and pays up every sunday.

C. Fla. cop sues family after saving baby

CASSELBERRY, Fla. -- A police officer has sued the family of a 1-year-old boy who nearly drowned because she slipped and injured a knee responding to their 9-1-1 rescue call.Joey Cosmillo f ell into the family pool in January. He was resuscitated but suffered brain damage and now cannot walk, talk or swallow. He lives in a nursing home and eats and breathes through tubes.Casselberry police Sgt. Andrea Eichhorn claims the boy's family left a puddle of water on the floor, causing her fall during the rescue efforts. She broke her knee and missed two months of work."The loss we've suffered, and she's seeking money?" said Richard Cosmillo, 69, the boy's grandfather, who lived in the home with his wife and the boy's mother. "Of course there's going to be water in the house. He was sopping wet when we brought him in."Eichhorn's personnel file includes numerous commendations. The 12-year veteran has worked as a hostage negotiator and prostitution decoy, and even wrestled razors away from a suicidal person.Eichhorn's attorney, David Heil, said she now has persistent knee pain and will likely develop arthritis. He said city benefits paid by workers' compensation and some disability checks helped with medical bills, but it wasn't enough. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages."It's a situation where the Cosmillos have caused these problems, brought them on themselves, then tried to play the victim," Heil said.Police Chief John Pavlis said Eichhorn was a good officer, though he urged her not to sue.

what a piece of shit this cop is. way to sue the family. i guess they didsnt clean up while they waited for you to arrive. they urged her not to sue.........they should tell her not to sue. i was really pissed at this until this story showed up.....

Officer Drops Lawsuit Against Child’s Family

The Casselberry police officer who was suing the family of a young boy who nearly drowned in a backyard pool has now dropped the legal action.
The case gained nationwide attention after Sgt. Andrea Eichhorn sued because she slipped on a puddle of water at the house while responding.
She claimed the family was negligent.
However, the lawsuit was dropped on Thursday.
Some legal experts said it never would have stood up in court.
"The answer is really simple,” said attorney Dan Newlin. “The family is dealing with a horrific situation where a child who has brain injury as a result of an accident. To bring more stress on family is something we don't do. We help families."
Eichhorn was also placed on leave by the Casselberry Police Department. The city's chief was against the lawsuit all along.

good, now fire her. ok, maybe it wouldnt have held up in court but the family would have had to hire a lawyer to defend them. this country should have a law that states that if you sue someone and you lose you have to pay for their attorney. that would stop frivilous lawsuits. this family is suffering enough.

Ten Commandments no match for Big MacNew survey shows more can recall burger ingredients than 'Thou shalt not kill'

A new survey shows more Americans can name the seven ingredients in a McDonald's Big Mac hamburger than the Ten Commandments.
The survey of 1,000 Americans, by Kelton Research, showed 80 percent could name the hamburger's primary ingredient – two all-beef patties – but less than 60 percent recalled the commandment "Thou shalt not kill," the Catholic News Service, or CNS, reported.
Kelton was commissioned to do the research to help promote the new animated movie "The Ten Commandments," opening Oct. 19.
The survey also found just 45 percent could recall the commandment "Honor your father and mother" while 76 percent remembered the Big Mac ingredient lettuce, 75 percent sesame-seed bun, 66 percent special sauce, 62 percent pickles and 60 percent cheese
Even Americans who say they go to church once a week had difficulty naming all of the commandments, CNS reported.
Among church-goers, 70 percent recalled "Thou shalt not kill," listed as "You shall not kill" in the survey, and 69 percent remembered "You shall not steal."
CNS said survey participants also had an easier time remembering the names of the six children on the old TV series "The Brady Bunch."
The least remembered children, Bobby and Peter, were named by 43 percent of Americans. The two commandments least recalled by survey participants were to keep the Sabbath holy, 34 percent, and have no other gods besides God, 29 percent.
The survey allowed for the slight variation between Catholic and Protestant versions of the commandments.
Scene from new animated movie "The Ten Commandments"
The "Ten Commandments" movie is the first in a series of 12 planned animated "Epic Stories of the Bible," according to CNS. Cindy Bond, president and chief operating officer of Promenade Pictures, said "Noah's Ark: The New Beginning" is halfway through production and "David and Goliath" has just started production.
The fourth is expected to be "The Battle of Jericho." Other Bible stories under discussion include Daniel in the lions' den, Samson and Delilah, the book of Genesis and stories from the New Testament.

well, can you? dont laugh, can you name all ten commandments? eight years of catholic school and i dont think i can. on the other hand i've eaten both the ten commandments and a big mac and i must say that the big mac was marginally better tasting. i wanted to eat thre brady girls but that just never happened.

"And God spoke all these words, saying: 'I am the LORD your God… ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.' THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.' FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.' FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.' SIX: 'You shall not murder.' SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.' EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.' NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.' TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'

Dude looks like a lady.......

Lesbian files lawsuit after being booted from ladies room for manly appearance

28-year-old lesbian is filing a gender-discrimination lawsuit after being booted from a New York City restaurant by a bouncer who mistook her for a man in the women's restroom.
Khadijah Farmer and her girlfriend had stopped by Greenwich Village's Caliente Cab Company this past June -- right after attending a gay pride parade -- but trouble started when a female patron complained that a man was using the ladies room. Farmer was then forced to leave.
According to the New York Daily News, the lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court and demands that the restaurant "provide sensitivity training for its workers" in addition to seeking "an unspecified amount of money."
"Now what happened to me inside of Caliente Cab should not happen to anyone anywhere," Farmer said in an Associated Press video. "New York City has always been and will continue to be an extremely diverse place to live in, and men and women come in all shapes and sizes."
"I told him I was a woman, and I tried to show him my I.D.," Farmer told AP about the bouncer who confronted her in the bathroom. "He refused to look at it. I was extremely uncomfortable and quite humiliated."
Her lawyer, Michael Silverman, who heads the Transgender Legal Defense & Educaton Fund, said he wasn't satisfied with how the restaurant handled the incident.
"Their response was that Khadijah can have a free meal, which is the equivalent of flipping us the bird," he said, according to the Daily News.
The restaurant responded to the lawsuit with a statement that "denies wrongdoing and accuses Farmer of being out for money."
"Farmer," the statement continues, "is not interested at all in getting at the truth here," and is "threatening continuous weekly protests of our business rather than expose the facts to the light of day in an appropriate forum."
"I don't go out of my way to put on pearls and pink dresses," Farmer said, adding "however, I shouldn't have to."
-----------------------------------------------------
well as the picture can attest this is an honest mistake. sure the guard should have looked at her i.d. but if you want to be taken for a lady you might consider dressing a little more like one. maybe if you care to be considered a woman you may not want to use a lawyer from the Transgender Legal Defense & Educaton Fund. just a thought on that one. lets be honest here, this isnt a case of someone discriminating against gays , its a case of mistaken identity and a stupid bouncer. she shouls accept a couple of free drinks for her and her lady and call it even.

Maryland asks sex offenders to post 'no candy' signs for Halloween

BALTIMORE — To discourage contact with children, some registered sex offenders in Maryland will be asked to post signs at their homes that say "No Candy at This Residence," on Halloween.
For the second straight year, parole and probation agents plan to team with local police to dissuade sex offenders who are not allowed to have contact with children from participating in the holiday.
"We actually print out the signs for the offenders and hand them to them," said Elizabeth Bartholomew, a spokeswoman for the Division of Parole and Probation. "We expect them to post the signs."
The program is based on similar initiatives in other states. Last year, no sex offenders in Maryland violated their parole or probation, Bartholomew said.
The effort is particularly intense in Baltimore, home to more than 200 offenders who are barred from contact with children.
In addition to the signs, all such offenders have been advised in a letter to stay home from 6 p.m. on Halloween until the next morning, leave their lights off and refuse to answer their doors.
Offenders can arrange with their parole or probation officers to be elsewhere that night, and accommodations can be made for offenders who abide by the restrictions but don't want to post the signs, Bartholomew said.
"There will be some houses where it's a sex offender's house and there's not a 'No Candy' sign posted, but in all those instances, someone will be going to the house to make sure the right thing is happening at that house," Bartholomew said.
Several states, including Delaware, New Jersey, Illinois, Virginia and Texas, ban registered sex offenders from handing out candy on Halloween, going to kids' parties, or being on the streets.

Maryland asks sex offenders to post 'no candy' signs for Halloween. Next on the state agenda is to ask tax debtors to put their checks in the mail, and for Viginia to respect it in the morning. dont they understand that this time of year is like chistmas to a pedophile. this is like a parade of toys coming to the door. good luck maryland but it isnt going to work.

Another reason not to like these things.....

(CNN) -- Federal authorities are warning consumers not to eat Banquet frozen turkey and chicken pot pies or similar generic store-brand products because they may have caused an outbreak of salmonella poisoning.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began investigating last week after receiving reports of illness. By Friday, it had identified the pot pies as a potential source of the salmonella that sickened more than 100 people in dozens of states.
The CDC sent inspectors Monday to the manufacturer, ConAgra Foods Inc.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service on Tuesday advised consumers not to eat the pot pies "until we are able to determine the source, products and potential production dates of contamination and to verify proper cooking instructions for these not-ready-to-eat products."
ConAgra voluntarily stopped making the pies Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.

Chimps choose more rationally than humans

LEIPZIG, Germany, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- German researchers have demonstrated chimpanzees make choices that protect their self-interest more consistently than do humans.Researchers from the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig studied the chimp's choices by using an economic game with two players. In the game, a human or chimpanzee who receives something of value can offer to share it with another. If the proposed share is rejected, neither player gets anything.Humans typically make offers close to 50 percent of the reward. They also reject as unfair offers of significantly less than half of the reward, even though this choice means they get nothing. The study, however, showed chimpanzees reliably made offers of substantially less than 50 percent, and accepted offers of any size, no matter how small. The researchers concluded chimpanzees do not show a willingness to make fair offers and reject unfair ones. In this way, they protect their self interest and are unwilling to pay a cost to punish someone they perceive as unfair. The study appeared in the Oct. 5 issue of the journal Science.

i based my conclusion on our president. theres a chimp who doesnt make good decisions.

White House: Al Qaeda trying to boost efforts in U.S.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Al Qaeda remains the "most serious and dangerous" terrorism threat to the United States and is likely to intensify efforts to place operatives inside this country, a new White House report said on Tuesday.
"Although we have discovered only a handful of individuals in the United States with ties to al Qaeda senior leadership, the group likely will intensify its efforts to place operatives here in the homeland," the "National Strategy for Homeland Security" report said.
"We also must never lose sight of al Qaeda's persistent desire for weapons of mass destruction, as the group continues to try to acquire and use chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear material," it said.
The report said that al Qaeda has protected its top leadership, replenished operational lieutenants, and "regenerated a safe haven" in Pakistan's tribal areas.
The report updated the White House national homeland security strategy issued in July 2002.
"We recognize that our efforts also must involve offense at home and abroad," President George W. Bush said in a letter accompanying the report. "Today, our nation is safer, but we are not yet safe."

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Change for a million? That's what a man was seeking Saturday when he handed a $1 million bill to a cashier at a Pittsburgh supermarket. But when the Giant Eagle employee refused and a manager confiscated the bogus bill, the man flew into a rage, police said.
The man slammed an electronic funds-transfer machine into the counter and reached for a scanner gun, police said.
Police arrested the man, who was not carrying identification and has refused to give his name to authorities. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
Since 1969, the $100 bill is the largest note in circulation.
Police believe the $1 million note seized at the supermarket may have originated at a Dallas-based ministry. Last year, the ministry distributed thousands of religious pamphlets with a picture of President Grover Cleveland on a $1 million bill.
reminds me of the episode of the simpsons where homer is trying to cash a million dollar bill and they ask him which president is on the bill and he says "all of them, they're having a party".

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - O.J. Simpson must hand over his Rolex watch and other assets to satisfy a judgment that found him liable for the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ron Goldman, a judge ruled Tuesday.
Any future royalties from a sports video game featuring Simpson also must be delivered to Goldman's father, Fred Goldman, Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg ruled.
Simpson must also surrender any of the disputed memorabilia items recently seized by Las Vegas authorities that are found to be legally his.

Goldman wasn't in court and there was no immediate comment from his representatives.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- A CBS-TV employee is accused of soliciting sex from an 11-year-old girl in exchange for tickets to a Miami Dolphins football game, police said.
Daniel Barron, 56, was arrested and charged with solicitation to commit sexual battery on a child under the age of 12 Saturday.
Police said Barron, a CBS sports television producer, chatted on the Internet with an undercover detective who was posing as a father willing to let Barron have sex with his 11-year-old daughter as well as sleep nude with her in exchange for tickets to the Miami Dolphins football game Sunday.
According to a police report, Barron told the undercover officer that he was looking forward to meeting the daughter, allegedly telling the detective, "I will be very gentle with her."
St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said that Barron was arrested when he went to meet the people he thought would be the father and daughter in the parking lot of a Ft. Lauderdale hotel on Saturday.
“The first instant message was Saturday afternoon,” Mascara said. “The arrest took place that night with the assistance and participation of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Fort Lauderdale Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Their work on this case was invaluable.”
According to a police report, after his arrest, Barron admitted to also using his CBS-owned computer to download and exchange child porn. He told police his computer could be found in a TV production truck located at Miami Dolphins Stadium, authorities said.
Detective Neil Spector with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office started the investigation by posing as the father of the girl and chatting the first time with Barron, police said.
Barron is currently being held at the Broward County Jail on $75,000 bond.
Spector was critical in another Internet investigation last month when a Nevada couple tried to get who they thought was a 15-year-old girl to run away to Las Vegas to be the husband's sex partner. Wesley Evans, 39, and Jennifer Evans, 33, were sentenced to 15 and 10 years in prison, respectively, after they were convicted of soliciting sex from a minor over the Internet.

This man needs to be found

chester arthur stiles, 37,

police say to assume hes armed.....

we need to keep his face out there until hes caught

Asshole of the year........

Where to begin on Rush Limbaugh's latest depravity? Well, you can say that he's got the authority, given his long illustrious combat record, to criticize the courage and patriotism of U.S. troops in the field...except, well, wait a minute. He doesn't have a combat record.
Or you could remind that specious windbag that two of the seven soldiers who signed the New York Times op ed lost their lives in Iraq...and a third suffered a serious brain injury.
But that would assume the man has shame. He doesn't. It is useful, however, to have these occasional Rushian effusions...a constant reminder of just how dreadfully ill-informed and profoundly unAmerican the boy is.
i guess this really isnt any different than all the hawks in congress going after move-on.org for pointing out the general petraeus wouldnt have said the war was going poorly no matter what or the republican national commitee going after a vietnam war veteran who had lost both legs there and comparing him to bin laden and hussein.

this is where america is headed kids. either you agree with us or your not patriotic. i'm sure these same people would have called the men who signed the declaration of independence treasonous. dont even think for a second that the shit spewed out of rush limbaugh's mouth would ever compare to Thomas Paine's common sense.

there are better reasons to boycott.....

The nation’s largest Catholic civil rights group urged a national boycott of Miller Brewing Co. Thursday for its sponsorship of a San Francisco street fair.
The Catholic League is upset over Miller's ties to a fair promoted in an ad that shows semi-nude men and women in bondage at a table with sex toys portraying Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" painting.
"Miller is sponsoring an incredibly outrageous and palpably anti-Christian event," said Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League.
The 2007 Folsom Street Fair, which organizers promote as "fairgrounds filled with people in their most outrageous leather/rubber/fetish attire" is planned for Sunday on Folsom Street in San Francisco.
The fair will benefit a group of local charities, including an organization called the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who call themselves "queer nuns."
"Want to put your cute leather outfit to good use and serve the community at the same time?" according to a promotion on the group's Web site.
Miller wants its logo removed from the poster, according to a statement in the New York Sun.
"While Miller has supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year. We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive," said Julian Green, a Miller spokeswoman in a statement.
Donohue called Miller's response a "lame statement of regret."
"Miller leaves us with no options," Donohue said.
Father Jonathan Morris, a Roman Catholic priest based in Rome, said the group is not nuns and wants to promote gay rights.
"What they are doing is trying to make a mockery of religion," Morris, a FOX News analyst, said.
Morris called the ad "blasphemy."
"When you take something that is sacred to somebody, you turn it into the profane and you use it for your own good," Morris said. "That's bad for society."

in arms over the latest decision of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), stopping the commercial showing of independently produced short films on human rights in the country by giving them an “X” rating.
On September 18th, the MTRCB reviewed the collection of 30-second to one-minute films, which tackle unexplained killings and enforced disappearances involving activists and journalists, among others. The following day, they announced that the films had been rated “X” which means they are unfit for public viewing.
The 13 short films contain excerpts from news video footage from the era of martial law, the killing of former Sen. Ninoy Aquino, and demonstrations during the Marcos administration, up to the killings of militant leaders, and the abduction of others, including Jonas Burgos.
The 13 short films titled “RIGHTS” were supposed to be shown yesterday at the Indie Sine cinema in a mall in Ortigas Center, in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of martial law and International Day of Peace.
Although the launching of the short films pushed through Friday afternoon, their public viewing was halted due to the MTRCB ruling issued on Sept. 19.
Multi-awarded filmmaker Carlitos Siguion-Reyna of the Directors Guild of the Philippines Inc. (DGPI) and Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) described the MTRCB decision as being indicative of “an abusive law”.

its nice to see that even the fourth world countries such as this can do the same stuff that our country does. check out gagwatch...its a good blog
